With support from San Diego County Supervisor, Dianne Jacob, SCRAM of California established the 1st annual San Diego County DUI Symposium, held on October 16, 2013. “A gathering of the region’s best minds and strategies to address the scourge of driving while under the influence,” Jacob writes in the opening letter of the program packet. Steve Lykins, San Diego MADD Executive Director, hosted the event. Bonnie Dumanis, San Diego County District Attorney made opening comments, welcoming the attendees and giving her undoubtable support to the efforts of eliminating DUI.

DUI Symposim Speakers

  • The California Office of Traffic Safety (William Ehart)
  • California Traffic Safety Resource Prosecutor (Phil Rennick)
  • Sheriff Lieutenant (Julius Faulkner)
  • CHP Officer (Jake Sanchez)
  • Chief Probation Officer (Mack Jenkins)
  • Deputy District Attorney (Cally Bright, former vertical DUI prosecutor)

In attendance were over 100 criminal justice partners, including:

  • Police officers
  • CHP officers
  • Probation’s DUI enforcement unit
  • OHS (DUI program) staff and counselors
  • City Attorney’s Office
  • Alcohol Monitoring Systems, Inc. / SCRAM Systems
  • Medical center representatives
  • RADD
  • Orange County DUI Task Force
  • HHSA
  • Institute for Public Strategies

The event created an arena for these agencies to come together and collaborate on future efforts to eliminate drunk driving and protect the community. Thank you to all who contributed and attended. The event was a huge success and we are looking forward to having another great event in 2014.
